Junior Doctor and Supervisor Resources

This website provides resources, tips, ideas and access to training courses for junior doctors and supervisors working in the Canberra and South East NSW region. The pages have a focus on medical training at the prevocational (PGY1 & PGY2 level). However, the resources are also relevant to supervisors and junior doctors at other levels of the lifelong learning journey.

Prevocational Medical Education in Canberra and South East NSW

The ACT training region for prevocational junior doctors includes Canberra hospitals and rural hospitals in south east NSW that second prevocational junior doctors from ACT Health. The training region includes:

  • Canberra Hospital (including some terms delivered at University of Canberra Hospital)

  • North Canberra Hospital

  • Goulburn Base Hospital

  • South East Regional Hospital

  • Cooma Hospital

  • Moruya Hospital

Entry into prevocational training positions in the ACT region is administered by Canberra Health Services. Accreditation of prevocational training programs in the region is performed by the Canberra Region Medical Education Council.

Vertical Integration in Medical Education

In many settings delivering medical education in Australia, vertical integration models are used, although the teaching/learning model might not formally incorporate this term. Vertical integration refers to the sharing of teaching and learning roles across all the learner stages, from prevocational junior doctors to experienced senior specialists. Vertical integration models focus on doctors at all levels being engaged in teaching and learning together. Consistent with the philosophy of lifelong learning and teaching, the resources available throughout these pages are useful to all doctors involved in teaching and learning.
